Our Process

Curated by hand, not by algorithm.

The Backyard Legacy is not a marketplace. Every product in our catalog has been chosen, in person, by a team that knows outdoor living β€” not just product listings. Here is how we work.

i. The maker

Specialist over generalist

We choose makers who do one category exceptionally β€” not factories that do everything.

ii. The piece

Stewardship over scale

Built to last decades and outlive a single owner. Permanence is the brief; trends are not.

iii. The relationship

Honesty over upsell

If a piece isn't right for you, we'll tell you. We measure success by what gets passed down.

01

We Select

Every piece is chosen by hand from eleven specialist US manufacturers. No fast furniture. No compromises on material or longevity. If it is in our catalogue, we have stood behind it.

02

We Design

Every purchase includes a personal design consultation, free at the start, deeper if you want a full design package. We make sure the piece fits the family and the home.

03

We Deliver

Complimentary insured freight to your door, with white-glove on select collections. Made-to-order timelines of 2–12 weeks, communicated at every stage. You will never wonder where your order is.

01

The manufacturers we work with

Specialist makers, one category each.

Our manufacturing partners are specialist makers, not mass producers. Each was chosen for a single category of outdoor living β€” and has been making that category for decades. We visit their facilities before we carry their products. And we keep visiting.

Category Makers Where they work
StructureShade 02 Pacific Northwest & New England β€” cedar joinery and powder-coated steel specialists.
RestoreSaunas & Ice Baths 02 Kiln-dried cedar cabins, infrared cabin engineering, and stainless cold-plunge builds for daily heat-and-cold recovery.
FirePits & Fireplaces 03 Texas, Colorado & California β€” concrete casting and gas-burner engineering.
SeatingFurniture & Dining 02 Pennsylvania & Georgia β€” American teak, woven aluminum, weatherproof upholstery.

How a maker joins our catalog

Three things we do before β€” and keep doing after β€” we agree to carry a product.

i. Visit

We walk the floor

In person, on site. We meet the welders and the finishers. No phone-call vetting, no PDF brochures.

ii. Vet

We test the piece

Samples are installed and lived with through a full season. Heat, rain, snow, salt. If it doesn't hold, we don't sell it.

iii. Verify

We keep returning

An annual visit, every year. Quality drifts when no one is watching. We don't stop watching.

“If a partner stops meeting the standard, we stop carrying them. Reputation lasts longer than a season's margin.”
